Easy way to upgrade hard drive?

I have a 2008 macbook pro, and instead of buying a new one i am upgrading a few components (hard drive, ram etc) my plan was to go from my current hard drive to a 128gb ssd. Is there an easy way to move my applications and select files to the new drive or do i have to re install EVERYTHING over again?
