Is Electric Bass easy to learn and im "fit" to play it?

Im 15, tall (6'2), and a bit on the chubby side. I always loved the bass in songs (i love metal-core and some Alt. rock). Im family is very big on music so that's not a problem. One problem is that no one plays guitar or drums ( i heard drum XP is good to have). My family is into the Bluegrass and gospel side on the music spectrum , AND i don't want to play the Double Bass (also called the upright bass). So i was wanting to know if its easy to learn and im big or to big to play it. Also should i learn about the regular guitar first before tackling the bass? Thank you for any help you provide.
